Does the prerecorded media have a text transcript?

Goal

Ensure that everyone including Deafblind people have access to the information in prerecorded audio and video content.

Why this matters

Read Providing a location for a text transcript to meet 1.2.1 Audio-only and Video-only (Prerecorded) – Level A.

Read Creating Audio Description Tracks for why a text transcript should contain descriptions of visual content to meet 1.2.5 Audio Description (Prerecorded) – Level AA.

How to implement

Writer

Review Text Transcripts.

Designer

Review Providing a location for a text transcript

Developer

Ensure that you place the transcript provided by your Writer in the location recommended by your Designer.

How to test

See Providing a location for a text transcript for more information about the types of places you may find a transcript.

  1. Identify prerecorded audio or video on the page.
  2. Confirm that a transcript matching the Writer’s requirements is available in the location outlined by the UX Designer’s documentation.
  3. Confirm that the transcript makes sense. If it doesn’t make sense to you it almost certainly won’t make sense to you users.
