Understanding Success Criterion 1.2.5: Audio Description (Prerecorded) by the W3C
Checklist – Components
Video – Recordings
If all of the information in the video track is also in the audio track, no audio description is necessary.
WCAG 1.2.3, 1.2.5, and 1.2.8 overlap, so that you can chose the minimum conformance level for your situation. In other words…
- If you want to comply at the A level, use 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded) – Level A, and choose between an audio description or a full-text alternative.
- If you want to comply at the AA level, use 1.2.5 Audio Description (Prerecorded) – Level AA, which requires the audio description track.
- If you want to comply at the AAA level, use 1.2.8 Media Alternative (Prerecorded) – Level AAA, which requires both the audio description and the full-text alternative.
